The Hotel Alte Werft is located in the heart of Papenburg

At the beginning of 1995 the hotel „Alte Werft“ was opened in the machine hall where the „Meyer Werft“ shipyard manufactured compressors from 1870 until its relocation in 1975. Where it smelled like oil and grease some 30 years ago it now smells like coffee. Where sweaty workmen wearing helmets and working gloves once toiled the hotel guests now help themselves at the rich breakfast buffet. An overhead crane with its enormous hook decorates the glass ceiling. Models of ships built by the Meyer shipyard adorn the walls. Gigantic punching and drilling machines dominate the foyer and the restaurant “Schnürboden”. These relics of the industrial age lend our hotel a distinctive character – a fascinating mixture of modernity and ancient times.

The varied possibilities in the Hotel

The hotel “Alte Werft” is a venue for culture, business and communications. Business travellers appreciate the excellent choice of rooms for events, conferences, conventions, seminars and workshops. The town hall which is located in the immediate proximity of the hotel has room for events for up to 1000 persons. Whether you are visiting us as a business traveller, a conference guest or a tourist you will find a comfortable house with friendly staff. We are looking forward to welcome you as our guest and are always available for further information you may need.

The boat landing stage for harbour tours is situated right next to the hotel. It takes only a five minute walk to reach the idyllic city centre with its historical buildings, churches, bridges and their canals with picturesque museum ships. However, Papenburg is not only a charming historical town. The “Meyer Werft” shipyard is always worth a visit and in the largest dry dock of the world you can see how the giant cruise ships are build for customers all over the world.

Papenburg also offers a wide range of leisure activities such as cycling, golf, swimming, sailing, rowing, bowling, miniature golf and “boßeln”.

After an exciting but maybe exhausting day you may relax yourself while visiting a concert in the theatre located directly at the hotel. However we can also offer you an individually arranged evening programm.
